Scientists reveal that avocado seed husks contain many useful chemical compounds, according to a study conducted on August 21, 2017.
Generally, avocado seed husks are thrown into the thrash and wasted. This study shows that avocado seed husks contain many chemical compounds which can be used for the treatment of many debilitating diseases and for enhancing the attraction of perfumes and other consumer goods. They contain many medicinal compounds which can help in the treatment of cancer and other conditions. Source of chemicals used in plastics are also found in avocado seed husks.
1.9 billion pounds of avocados are consumed by the Americans every year. The flesh is eaten and seeds are thrown into trash by almost everyone. Avocado oil from the seeds are extracted by few of the edible oil manufacturers, however, the husks are thrown before they are processed. 21 ounces of powder was produced from 300 dried avocado. Further processing resulted in seed husk oil and seed husk wax. On carrying out gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, the oil showed 116 compounds and the wax showed 16 compounds.
Behenyl alcohol found in the oil is used as an ingredient in anti-viral medicines, heptacosane helps in the inhibition of tumor cell growth and dodecanoic acid helps in increasing the high density lipoprotein. Benzyl butyl phthalate, which is used in improving the flexibility of various synthetic products and a food additive known as butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) was detected in wax. Researchers say that these natural compounds will be modified further for the production of medications, which have less side effects.
This study shows the useful chemical compounds present in avocado seed husks, which will help in the production of cosmetic products. By making use of these seed husks, global nutricosmetics market will experience an increase in its growth, as elaborated in the global nutricosmetics market report published by Coherent Market Insights.
