Google is set to launch range of smart speakers, Google Home and Google Home Mini in India on April 2018
Google India’s tweeter account updated post confirming that the Home and Home Mini speaker will be launched in India. However, the tweet does not mention a date, though there is speculation it will be on April 9 or April 10, 2018. Google’s account tweeted, “Get ready to #MakeGoogleDoIt, at home too. Coming soon,” with a picture of both the speakers. The launch of the Google Home and Google Home Mini comes a few months after Amazon launched its range of smart speakers – Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Plus in India.
Google Home Mini is compact and affordable speaker launched in October 2017. They are similar to the Amazon Echo Dot, which can be used in more rooms, making the services of Google Assistant available to more people in a single house. In 2016, Google revealed smart speaker called Google Home, as a hub for the connected home. The smart speakers are powered by Google Assistant while Amazon’s Echo line of connected speakers are powered by Alexa voice assistant. The Google Home allows user to interact with the device by setting it up to recognize voice. Once the speaker becomes attuned to particular voice, it will be able to pick up commands from user.
The device can manage tasks in the house and answer queries user would generally look for on the search engine. The Google Home has interchangeable bases that come in a plethora of colors. However, the company did not disclose any information regarding the pricing of the Google Home and Home Mini. In the U.S. the Google Home is priced at US$ 129 (Rs. 8,400) and the Google Home Mini comes for US$ 49 (Rs. 3,200). Furthermore, it is unclear that features such as Wi-Fi-enabled smart speakers will be available only via offline stores or if there will be available online as well.
