Alphabet Inc.’s Google announced the launch of a new online education program, on January 16, 2018.

The course was created with an intention to certify people for work in information technology support, which is part of the internet giant’s philanthropic push around job training.

Google has invested billions into artificial intelligence technology that everyone believes will decrease employment rates in the near future, considering jobs across several fields as obsolete. In 2017, Google chief executive officer Sundar Pichai introduced a companywide initiative focused on employment, announcing the company would spend around US$ 1 billion over five years to nonprofits in the field of IT and IT-related advancements such as artificial intelligence.

Google partnered with the online education firm Coursera Inc., for the development of its new education course. The course is designed to specially help people who do not hold any formal training or college degrees to find IT jobs at large companies.

“As technology advances change or replace more jobs, we must create more pathways for people to jump into the new, high-paying careers of the future,” said Jeff Maggioncalda, CEO of Coursera.

It has been reported that Google has developed the curriculum by itself, which is based on the training it provides to its own support staff. The company said it will fund financial assistance for over 10,000 participants program, pooled from the US$ 1 billion it has already pledged.

The demand for artificial intelligence in several industrial areas is rapidly increasing, especially in the telecommunications sector, as elaborated by Artificial Intelligence in Telecommunication Market report published by Coherent Market Insights. This new course will thus, help several people secure jobs in the fast-growing industry.
