Instagram Alerts Users when Someone Screengrabs their Stories

Internet-based photo sharing app Instagram have rolled out a new feature, which notifies user if other user has taken screenshot of their stories.

The feature is still in infancy stage and it is expected to be rolled out soon with an update. However, some users appear to have already started receiving screenshot notifications for Stories Until now, users have been able to record or screenshot other people’s stories secretly on Instagram, without being detected. Instagram will soon send notification to user whose story has been screenshot.

The screenshot and screen-recording function allows user to make permanent copies of the post if they want to save. Unless user decides to add stories to highlights section on their profile, Instagram Stories automatically disappear after 24 hours. According to The Independent, when somebody will take a screenshot of one of stories, a sun-shaped symbol will appear alongside their name in the Story Views section. Instagram will send a notification to user before it switches screenshot notifications on, by displaying a popup message reading: “Next time you take a screenshot or screen recording, the person who posted the story will be able to see it.”

The new features serves as a good news to privacy-conscious users, brings Instagram Stories. Snapchat also sends a notification to user when people screenshot their stories though user used to be able to get around its system by switching on Airplane Mode before taking a screenshot. Although Snapchat has grown wise to this technique, it can be used to trick Instagram system.
